The WASP home represents the center of WASP life. The way our houses look are of the utmost importance. We adore colonial "cottages" and English tudors complete with lush lawns and exuberant gardens. We only decorate our homes with the most classic interior designs. Keeping up with that image of perfection, you'll never find even a spoon out of place.

ReplyDeleteJackie Kennedy was French Catholic and Irish Catholic..yet she is considered a WASP by virtue of her husband. The phrase "N.O.K.D." is simply not enforced. The idea that one either is or is not WASP is a joke. WASPs have very muddied waters like every other ethnic group. In fact, I know a D.C. (Gtown visitation/ Gtown Prep -oldest prep High school in U.S.) protestant, old money fam that is more WASPY than anything on this blog can represent. Yet this family parties with Jews and Hispanics and openly embraces them into their circle of friends and family. The writers of these blogs must be very insecure that they have to broadcast their identity, which they are not even accurately representing: Aren't WASPS supposed to have an abject horror of attention and the spot light? (sorry for the shite grammar).

ReplyDeleteAlso, most of the pics on this site are adverts for consumer products or fashions. How chavtastic is that? I almost think that the posters must frequently hear NOKD, directed at them! Well, bless their hearts for at least putting forth the effort. p.s. sorry for all the posted, then deleted comments. I was trying to edit misspellings quickly by reposting, but, apparently, made more of a mess that had I just left it alone.

This is just suburban upper middle class culture designed to pathetically ape actual WASPdom (Think Vineyard Vines at every outlet mall in America) The middling folk are obsessed with coming off as patrician. I grew up in a WASP family and the uncaricatured versions of the things that this new culture is extrapolated from existed on the peripheries and not in the center. The true measure of WASPDOM is the pursuit of the bohemian and the eccentric and the intellectual.....these people are too terrified that their social betters will notice if they don't wear the right bow tie so they are constrained to an empty mime of my culture......My family is now intermarried (and always has been, just like every other WASP I know) to catholics and jews and there is absolutely no contention about these things. Even those that go to church are ipso facto fairly secular minded people.... My family has been in the colonies since before the revolution as church builders and merchants but I am the oddity in that I have an interest in these things.
